HISTORY/ LOCATION OF GAUHATI LIONS CLUB
The club was inaugurated on 10th October 1969, club was sponsored by Lions club of Kolkota and M M Oberai was it's 1st Charter President. The club has completed 35 years in service to the community. It's track record of service activities is unparallel in the district. not only in terms of it's membership but for it's need based activities also. It acquired a plot of land being allotted by the state Govt. near Guwahati gaushala and a service temple was constructed on it namely Gauhati Lion's Eye Screening cum Diagnostic Centre. .
During this long inning of service activities it made a humble but strong begining and acquired of its own right the needed status. the club was never lacking in the leadership and gave three district Governors to the district Lion D P Bajaj, Lion S N Agarwal and Lion Shyamal Das Gupta and many more are expected in the future.
IN APPRECIATION
Lionswap the ISP provider for Lions Web Sites has
been set-up by the Lions of Turkey (MD118). Work on the programmes/script used
to compile Web Pages has been the work of Dr. Enzar Tore of the Canakkale Lions,
also of Turkey. The Lions Club of Gauhati consequently displays the national
flag of TURKEY on their site as a sign of appreciation of their work/efforts.
